Our friend MURS

Posted 28 December 2010   Uncategorized

In around 1997 (it was winter because I remember snow) we were in our garage playing ping pong when a red van rolled up to our college home in NW Reno filled with RAPPERS. The Living Legends poured out and immediately began throwing dirty snowballs at each other. It was LITERALLY the entire crew (except Arata whom I’d met at the HA mansion a week before) and we put down our ping pong paddles and proceeded to meet everyone. This was the first time I met Nick Carter aka MURS. After some quick intros we all went back to 2v2 ping pong and lifelong friendships were born. The Living Legends performed that night @ AREA 51 on 4th street to around 50 kids and after that night I was HOOKED.

We have maintained separate relationships with each member of the crew over the years and MURS has always been very supportive of everything we do. Every member of LL has always been amazing towards us but MURS really feels like a friend. I’ll never forget meeting him that day and thinking: Wow this kid (he is only 5yrs younger than me) has his SHIT together. Murs had tapes he had made at Kinkos (“F’Real” I believe) and loaded us up with his entire tape collection. (As did every member of the crew)

Fast forward to 2010 where my little brother from another mother is leveraging his hip-hop career into something that is impacting humanity.

Some words from the the man himself –

“This summer I had the privilege of traveling with Ordinary Hero to Ethiopia to do some volunteer work. We worked in various villages and orphanages. This is footage of the beautiful children and wonderful people we met in place called Korah (a leprosy colony). We are currently raising funds to build a well and a new orphanage for this community.”
